Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship University of Chicago Chicago, Illinois Cardiac MRI and CT Focus The Advanced Cardiac Imaging Fellowship with a focus on cardiac magnetic resonance and computed tomography is a 12-month program conducted at the University of Chicago Cardiac Imaging Center which includes hands-on supervised clinical training, research, formal didactics, and multi-imaging conferences.

Clinical Training. The trainee will work closely with cardiologists, radiologists, and physicists. They will be expected to interact with patients directly and to be actively involved with study protocoling, image acquisition, image interpretation and analysis, and reporting. Trainees will perform sufficient cases to qualify for Level III accreditation in cardiac MRI and/or CT. Opportunities to learn advanced echocardiography and nuclear techniques are available.

Research Training. In addition to clinical training, all fellows will participate actively in research projects. Research training will include one-on-one interaction with experienced investigators to learn study design, data organization, data analysis, and abstract/ manuscript writing. Fellows will be expected to submit abstracts for presentation at national meetings and compose manuscripts for publication in refereed journals.

Conferences. Didactic sessions and research meetings are held at least weekly and include research, technology, and clinical topics. Fellows will also conduct conferences and assist in training others.

Eligibility and Selection: All applicants will be required to have successfully completed an ACGME-certified postdoctoral training program. Level II competency in at least one area of cardiovascular imaging is required. Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Illinois is required. Fellows will be selected based upon their academic credentials and potential for academic careers.

CLINICAL/ RESEARCH MRI FELLOWSHIP

The Clinical / Research MRI fellowship is a dedicated one-year program incorporating all aspects of clinical, research and practical magnetic resonance imaging.

The fellowship places a strong emphasis on research activity and is intended for individuals planning to pursue an academic career focusing on MRI.

The clinical component includes training in the core clinical areas of cardiovascular, neuroradiology, body imaging and musculoskeletal.

In addition, fellows will also have the opportunity to do elective rotations with options including breast MRI, interventional MRI and pediatric imaging.

The practical portion of the fellowship provides an opportunity to learn basic and complex MRI techniques through supervised hands-on instruction in MRI scanning.

The Cardiovascular Imaging fellowship is based at the downtown Northwestern Memorial Hospital, a 600‐bed tertiary referral center for the greater Chicago area.

The cardiovascular imaging fellowship is a one-year program offering training in all aspects of cardiovascular imaging, including Cardiac MRI, MR angiography (MRA), Cardiac CT and CT angiography.

The goal of the fellowship is to provide training and education in all technical and clinical aspects of cardiovascular MRI and CT.

Fellows will also receive instruction in research methodology through mentored support of projects in cardiovascular MRI and CT and will receive dedicated academic time for that purpose.

ADVANCED CARDIOVASCULAR IMAGING FELLOWSHIP

Fellowship: 1 year advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowship in cardiovascular MRI and CT.

Eligibility: Candidates will have successfully completed an ACGME accredited general cardiology fellowship. No prior CMR or CCT experience is required.

Education: The fellow will have an active role in cardiology fellowship and radiology resident education. Weekly didactic teaching sessions with the cardiology fellowship provide a comprehensive review of multimodality cardiac imaging and rotate through CMR, CCT, Nuclear cardiology and echocardiography. Imaging physics will be taught via monthly didactics and during daily readouts.

Facility: We have an active cardiovascular imaging program with approximately 1000 CCT and CMR studies annually. CCT studies are performed on a Siemens Somatom Force scanner. CMR studies are performed on Siemens Aera 1.5 and Verio 3.0T. Lexington is a beautiful university city with a thriving downtown within minutes of Bluegrass farmlands.

The NHLBI Fellowship Program in Cardiac/Cardiovascular Imaging, functioning within the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Branch of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, provides training for physicians interested in research-oriented academic careers in the field of non-invasive cardiovascular imaging.

The Program consists of one to three years of clinical and research training in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, cardiovascular computed tomography, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. The goal of the Program is to develop experts in clinical cardiovascular MRI and cardiovascular CT, who are able to conduct clinical or translational research in advanced cardiovascular imaging. Initial training focuses on establishing clinical competence in cardiovascular MRI and cardiovascular CT. To achieve this objective, the Program provides fellows with broad exposure to the subspecialty.

Typically, fellows participate in the acquisition and interpretation of over 400 cardiovascular MRI and over 400 cardiovascular CT examinations during a standard 2 year fellowship. State of the art scanners are available to support the clinical research and training program. The NHLBI runs 4 cardiovascular MRI scanners and there is potential access to additional MRI equipment, including high field small animal imaging systems (4.7T to 14T) and human high field systems (3T, 7T and soon 11.7T). Currently, there is access to cardiac capable CT scanners from all 4 major vendors, including a 320-detector row CT scanner.

NIH T32 training position in Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. A 2-¬‐year fellowship training position supported by the NIH T32 mechanism is available at the Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston. This training position is dedicated for the advancement of skills and knowledge of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging both in clinical and research settings. Clinical hands-¬‐on training in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging will be available. Research is a major component of this fellowship with opportunities to participate in imaging-¬‐related registries, clinical trials, and technical development of novel CMR methods. Candidates must be a US permanent resident or citizen and is currently in training in cardiology or radiology. The Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship at the University of Minnesota is a 1-2 year academic training program focused on Cardiovascular MRI (CMR) and Cardiovascular CT (CCT) for candidates that have completed an ACGME-accredited general cardiology fellowship. We have one of the highest volume programs in the country, performing around 1800 CMR and 2100 CCT studies annually, spanning the entire spectrum of clinical indications. A one-year fellowship at Carnegie Hill Radiology is available starting July 2017. This position offers training in the analysis and interpretation of a wide range of clinical cardiac MRI studies, including the assessment of cardiac function, quantitative flow, myocardial perfusion, tissue viability and coronary artery imaging. The fellow will work directly with Dr. Steven Wolff and will also have the opportunity to participate in clinically relevant research and the evaluation of new medical devices. A comprehensive cardiac MRI teaching file is also available. Our facility includes a state of the art GE Discovery 3T MRI scanner and a 160 slice Toshiba Aquilion™ Prime CT scanner.

The Cardiovascular Diagnostic Imaging fellowship consists of 12-24 months training conducted at the Ohio State University Medical Center and includes hands-on supervised clinical training, research, formal didactics, and interdisciplinary conferences. The training available to general cardiovascular medicine fellows in these areas provides a foundation for the additional training necessary to achieve level III competency. The significant volume of clinical studies and research opportunities afford adequate learning opportunities for both general and subspecialty trainees.

Clinical Training.The allocation of months requires a minimum of 12 months for CMR/CT, 12 months for echocardiography, and/or 12 months for nuclear cardiology, and can be tailored to each trainee's career objectives. Documented completion of level II training in any of these areas during prior training, such as an ACGME-accredited program in cardiovascular medicine, may be counted toward these requirements. The trainee will be expected to interact with patients directly with appropriate supervision including eliciting clinical histories, applying physical examination skills, and reviewing existing data relevant to each procedure throughout the period of training. In addition to gaining the relevant knowledge of physics and instrumentation for each modality, fellows will learn to independently perform examinations and interpret the results.

Research Training.All fellows will participate in at least 1 research project during their fellowship and will be expected to complete the necessary educational sessions prior to onset of human subjects or animal research. Such sessions are offered through the OSU Office of Responsible Research Practices throughout the year. Additional coursework in research including biostatistics and clinical trial design are also available, in addition to weekly and quarterly didactics. Fellows will be expected to prepare grant applications, submit abstracts for presentation at national/international meetings, and compose manuscripts for submission to refereed journals.

Didactics are held at least once monthly and include the following topics: physics, instrumentation, safety, acquisition protocols, post processing, indications, contraindications, coding, and compliance. Fellows will also be able to attend on-site educational seminars relevant to the areas of training, such as the 5-day CMR/CT course held twice yearly. Fellows will also conduct conferences to demonstrate their understanding of new skills and knowledge and assist in training of general cardiovascular medicine fellows. They will also attend core conferences in cardiovascular medicine.

Interdisciplinary Conferences.Quarterly conferences are held with the general cardiovascular medicine fellows and consist of case presentations as well as didactic material. Over the course of one year, cases presented at this and other interdisciplinary conferences will be selected to represent all forms of cardiovascular diseases including ischemic heart disease, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, and pericardial disease.

Eligibility and Selection:All applicants will be required to have successfully completed an ACGME-certified postdoctoral training program. Level II competency in at least one area of cardiovascular imaging is required; as such, any physician who is board-certified or board-eligible in cardiovascular medicine is eligible. Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Ohio is also required. All applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of faculty involved in cardiovascular imaging and selected by faculty from the core program. Fellows will be selected based upon their academic credentials, past performances, and potential for academic careers.

Accreditation:Currently, there is no ACGME accreditation for cardiovascular imaging, although ACC/AHA Clinical Competence Statements have been published for each area of training. These Statements form the core of the curriculum, insuring completion at standards for training that will likely be included in future accreditation requirements.

The Cardiovascular Imaging Laboratory, located in the Miller Pavilion at the Cleveland Clinic offers a one to two year fellowship in CV imaging.
Fellows will work on a dedicated CV imaging service offering Cardiovascular MRI and CT, and participate in both clinical and research activities. Over 3,000 CV-MRI and 9,000 CV-CT studies are performed each year with clinical and research applications. The Cardiovascular Imaging Laboratory employs multiple MRI scanners (1.5T Philips Achieva XR, 1.5T Siemens Avanto, and a 3.0T Philips Achieva) and multiple CT scanners (Siemens Somatom "Force", a Siemens Definition "Flash", as well as multiple mid-range Philips, GE, and Siemens scanners). CV-MRI studies performed include LV and RV cardiomyopathies and masses, LV myocardial viability and pharmacologic stress perfusion imaging, pericardial imaging, valvular disease, coronary MRA, thoracic and abdominal aortic disease, and peripheral vascular MRA. CV-CT studies performed include evaluation of coronary artery anatomy, pulmonary venous anatomy, cardiac morphology and function, TAVR studies, and thoraco-abdominal aortic disease.

CARDIovascular mri fellowship

The cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) laboratory at the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center in Houston, TX is one of the largest CMR programs in the United States. The laboratory is under the direction of Dr. Dipan J. Shah and is equipped with three dedicated clinical CMR scanners (1.5T Siemens Avanto, 1.5T
Siemens Aera, 3.0T Siemens Skyra-fit) and one additional research CMR scanner (1.5 Siemens Aera). The laboratory performs > 3000 CMR clinical studies per year including a broad mix of viability, cardiomyopathy, stress, valvular, vascular, and congenital CMR
exams on a diverse international patient population.
The CMR fellowship program offers one to two-years of clinical and research training which will fulfill all requirements for Level 3 certification according to the SCMR and ACCF Guidelines. This includes interpretation of a large number of clinical CMR studies (> 750), opportunity to gain expertise in hands-on scanning (> 100), and
participation in a rich series of didactic lectures. Research opportunities are included for both the one year or two-year tracks with protected research time for the latter. After completion of this program, participants will have the skills necessary to establish and direct a dedicated CMR imaging laboratory.

  • Opportunities for two-year research fellowships are available for individuals who have not completed cardiology fellowship training at US or Canadian accredited programs.
