The 2016 journal impact factors were released last week and the Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (JCMR), the official journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), maintained an outstanding impact factor of 5.601. The 2016 Impact Factor reflects the frequency with which papers published in JCMR in 2014 and 2015 were cited by articles in 2016. This key indicator demonstrates the influence and scientific value of the journal.

According to the 2016 InCites Journal Citation Reports, JCMR is ranked 7th out of 126 journals in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Medical Imaging category, and 21st among 126 journals in the Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems category.  Importantly, the total number of citations of JCMR articles was up from 3,592 citations in 2015 to 4,349 in 2016, and the 5-year impact factor increased to reach a new high of 6.037 this year.

The 2016 impact factor represents the final year under the editorial leadership of Dr. Dudley Pennell; in January 2017 Dr. Warren Manning took over as the new Editor-in-Chief.  Pennell states “This excellent JCMR impact factor is a testament to the outstanding research performed by the CMR community, the editorial management of the journal in maintaining publication excellence, and the trust placed in JCMR by top researchers in making JCMR their first choice publishing vehicle. All JCMR articles are open-access making them instantly available worldwide on publication, and reproduction of figures is free and simple requiring only the citation of the original article”

The outstanding Impact Factor reflects the high scientific and clinical value of the papers published in JCMR. Congratulations to all of those who helped contribute to the success of the journal!
